Rock Out With Your Caulk Out

Oh man, HGTV duped me.

When we bought our first home five years ago, I was all hopped up on HGTV home remodeling enthusiasm. It was going to be fun! Don’t worry about that pink master bathroom, we will transform it into a “master bath oasis.”

Yeah, no. No we won’t.

It’s still pink. We still have brass fixtures. It’s all we can do to keep up with the maintenance that HAS to happen.

We did redo the floor and vanity in our tiny upstairs bathroom because the floor beneath the tile started to rot out. The tiled area is 5 feet long by 3 feet wide and it took us almost a year. A friggin’ year!

This is partly because when you have little kids and they want to “help” all this stuff takes forever. And you can’t make any noise during naptime or after their 7pm bedtime, so good luck with that.

And then it turned out we actually didn’t  have any idea how to remodel a damned thing. So we watched roughly 25 hours of YouTube videos about how to cut tile and spent our kids college fund to rent or buy all the tools that we needed.

But that bathroom looks damned good now, if you ask me.

HGTV is still my guilty pleasure. The gym where I workout has TVs attached to the treadmills and I lure myself to run with promise of watching Love It Or List It. It’s house porn and I can’t tear myself away.

I have a friend who is handy. She does all kinds of nifty stuff to her house. She once helped me cut trim for behind the toilet in our downstairs bathroom after my sons’ urine warped it. I told you, I can barely keep up with the new issues, much less the old eyesores.

So if you come to my house, be kind.  We’re just waiting for the 1990s aesthetic to come back around or become “vintage.” Forest green and pink are bound to be cool again. Someday.

A full year later, a functioning bathroom!

Gorgeous! 🙂 The littles aren’t little forever, it gets easier in different ways, harder in others. You’ll get to hammer after 7pm soon and I’ll hold your hair back if you need me to.
